One thing that I believe was not mentioned was the use of MINT available at Mint.com. Although it is a US program, it now works in Canada and is very helpful for managing income and spending without a labourious manual input system. It accesses your bank and credit card accounts for balances - it does not have access to do anything and security seems very good. I do not use it for investment accounts, but for cash flow and budget it is first-rate once arranged.
