Derek Gates has 20 years in the financial services industry as an investment advisor and discretionary portfolio manager.

 Mr. Gates is the founder of Sustainable Wealth Management Ltd, an index provider focused on developing unique industry specific indexes for institutions and retail investors. The most popular index is the Sustainable Oil Sands Sector Indexwhich is the basis for several publicly listed funds in North America and Europe.

 Mr. Gates is the author of the Canadian Oil Sands Investors Guide and has been a guest on the Business News Network (BNN TV).  He holds a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Canadian Investment Manager (CIM), and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Mr. Gates is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute and a member of the Calgary Chartered Financial Analyst Society.
